If you are interested in investing in luxury real estate in Marbella or had recent dealings with a high-end real estate agent, you’ll already know that the demand for luxury property for sale in Marbella is much higher than the supply. This is because Malaga Province is booming. In addition to the obvious attractions of long lazy days of sunshine and the sea, the area is experiencing substantial economic growth at a much higher rate than the rest of Andalusia or indeed the entire Spanish Peninsula.
In 2021 alone, Malaga attracted gross foreign investment of € 348 million euros, representing a 32.47 percent increase compared to the previous year. According the Malaga Investor Office Annual Report, 27 new and / or expanded operations opened in Malaga in 2022, bringing thousands of new jobs to the region. The region’s tourism, construction, technology, logistics and agriculture sectors are all thriving.
What’s more the forecasts are extremely positive for the future, suggesting that 81% of foreign companies expect to continue to increase their turnover. In fact, 66 percent expect the creation of further employment opportunities and 55 percent forecast an increase in investments.
Ikos invests 17€ million on the Costa del Sol
One such international business to invest heavily in Malaga Province is the Sani and IKOS Resort Group, one of the world’s top hotel groups. Ikos Andalusia recently updated their luxury resort located in Estepona on the Costa del Sol, spending around 17€ million on renovations and the addition of 19 villas and suites, restaurants and swimming pools.
First Fendi beach club in the world
Big names in the fashion industry are also getting in on the act. This year, 2023, the high-end Italian fashion label Fendi opened the world’s first Fendi beach club at the iconic Puente Romano Beach Resort. Fendi has taken over the famous hotel’s beach club to celebrate the opening of the brands new boutique in Puerto Banús. Fendi is an iconic Italian brand started in Rome in 1925 and for 54 years Karl Lagerfeld held the position of Artistic Director for Couture and Womenswear.
If you are lucky enough to own one of the luxury apartments or million-dollar homes on the Golden Mile, you can relax whilst enjoying delicious drinks. The elegant furniture, accessories and tableware, feature easily recognizable Fendi logos, colours and prints. Beach huts, beds and loungers are adorned with red and yellow stripes and branded sand-coloured sunshades add to the ambiance.
There is also a pop-up Fendi store close to the beach club offering some of the most exquisite pieces from the new summer 2023 collection which is inspired by astrology. As quoted in the Sur in English newspaper, the General Manager of the Puente Romano Beach Resort, Gonzalo Rodiguez, expressed his delight at the collaboration with Fendi, “It is a pleasure and an honour to collaborate with Fendi, we can’t think of a better way to welcome the summer”. He explained that Marbella is a favourite Mediterranean destination for global luxury lifestyle and fashion brands, making Fendi the perfect partner.
Karl Lagerfeld Villas
The House of Karl Lagerfeld also has a further connection with Malaga, as the company has recently presented its first eponymous luxury residential project in Marbella. To paraphrase the company’s website, “The brand celebrates Karl Lagerfeld’s legacy and passion and inexhaustible creativity. Conveying his spirit, recognizing an icon, inspiration and force of nature”.
Dolce & Gabbana joins forces with Dani Garcia
Hot on the heels of Fendi’s foray into the hospitality market on the Costa del Sol, fellow Italian fashion giants, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, have joined forces with Malaga gastronomic luminary Dani Garcia and the Mosh group. The Marbella based chef and partners have breathed new life into the emblematic La Cabane beach club at the Los Monteros Hotel in Marbella East.
The look and feel takes inspiration from the fresh blues and whites of luxury beach clubs from Capri to Saint Tropez. The menu is also inspired by the flavours of Italy and the Mediterranean, offering simple good produce, from risotto to seafood, including caviar and a raw bar.
There is a dedicated dessert room where the décor is unmistakably Dolce & Gabbana, and Dani worked closely with the Italian brand to achieve the venue and explained in the Diarosur.es, “I wanted to do something very personalized and I think I have achieved it. It is one of the projects that I have enjoyed the most, it has been an incredible challenge”.
Operating under the philosophy of ‘local thinking, global cuisine’, Garcia is a Michelin starred chef with a growing worldwide reputation and around 20 renowned restaurants to his name. You can find out information about his many different gastronomic experiences on his website here.
La Pérgola del Mediterràneo by Antonio Banderas
Another internationally big name in both Hollywood and the restaurant business is Malaga born superstar Antonio Banderas. The actor turned restauranteur is feted almost as much for his unwavering support and investment in Malaga as he is for his films and theatre productions. In July 2023, Banderas, a partner in the Tercer Acto hospitality group, opened a new eatery within the headquarters of the Club Mediterràneo in Malaga.
There was no announcement or fanfare, the opening night (10th July 2023) was attended by a select group of 60 diners who have a connection to the club. The menu is eclectic, on hand there is traditional fare that reflects the restaurant’s location, and there is a second option offering more Asian inspired flavours. This latest Banderas venture can accommodate up to 700 guests and will create a further 50 to 80 jobs within the local community.
