This is well above the national average of 18.2%, and places M\u00e1laga fifth in Spain in terms of the absolute number of foreign-born residents. Only Madrid, Barcelona, Alicante and Valencia have more.  <\/p><p class=\"\" data-start=\"857\" data-end=\"1217\">These figures confirm what many have known for some time: the Costa del Sol is a magnet for people from all over the world. Whether they are sun seekers, retirees, digital nomads or investors &#8211; the appeal of this region continues to grow. But where exactly do all these foreigners live? And which nationalities are most heavily represented?   <\/p><h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"1219\" data-end=\"1271\">Belgians and Dutch deliberately choose M\u00e1laga<\/h3><p class=\"\" data-start=\"1273\" data-end=\"1408\">Among foreign residents, <strong data-start=\"1313\" data-end=\"1361\">Belgians and Dutch<\/strong> are also <strong data-start=\"1313\" data-end=\"1361\">well represented<\/strong>. According to data from 2024, there are officially: <\/p><ul data-start=\"1410\" data-end=\"1455\"><li class=\"\" data-start=\"1410\" data-end=\"1436\"><p class=\"\" data-start=\"1412\" data-end=\"1436\"><strong data-start=\"1412\" data-end=\"1434\">6,868 Dutch<\/strong><\/p><\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"1437\" data-end=\"1455\"><p class=\"\" data-start=\"1439\" data-end=\"1455\"><strong data-start=\"1439\" data-end=\"1455\">4,584 Belgians<\/strong><\/p><\/li><\/ul><p class=\"\" data-start=\"1457\" data-end=\"1698\">in the province of M\u00e1laga. In reality, that number is probably much higher, since by no means all foreigners formally register with the municipality. According to the most recent figures, as many as <strong data-start=\"2478\" data-end=\"2548\">64% of the population<\/strong> is made up of <strong data-start=\"2478\" data-end=\"2548\">people born abroad<\/strong>. Of the 9,256 residents, only 3,337 are Spanish by birth. The largest foreign group are <strong data-start=\"2651\" data-end=\"2670\">British (1,388)<\/strong>, followed by <strong data-start=\"2685\" data-end=\"2701\">Russians (556)<\/strong>, as well as over 1,000 people from the Americas, with notable representation from both South America and the U.S.   <\/p><p class=\"\" data-start=\"2815\" data-end=\"2975\">Benahav\u00eds is loved by those looking for <strong data-start=\"2860\" data-end=\"2906\">tranquility, privacy, luxury real estate and security<\/strong> &#8211; qualities that particularly appeal to Belgian and Dutch buyers.<\/p><h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"2977\" data-end=\"3029\">Municipalities with more than 40% foreign residents<\/h3><p class=\"\" data-start=\"3031\" data-end=\"3210\">Besides Benahav\u00eds, there are numerous other municipalities where <strong data-start=\"3085\" data-end=\"3143\">more than 40% of the population was born outside of Spain<\/strong>. You&#8217;ll also find many <strong data-start=\"4672\" data-end=\"4693\">Dutch speakers<\/strong> here, thanks in part to the large supply of homes with sea views, low community costs and central location. <\/p><\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"4798\" data-end=\"5058\"><p class=\"\" data-start=\"4800\" data-end=\"5058\"><strong data-start=\"4800\" data-end=\"4823\">Benalm\u00e1dena (36.9%)<\/strong> has a strong presence of <strong data-start=\"4857\" data-end=\"4895\">Argentines, British and Moroccans<\/strong>, but here too <strong data-start=\"4916\" data-end=\"4942\">Dutch and Belgians<\/strong> are actively looking for apartments in the center or in the popular zones such as Arroyo de la Miel and Torrequebrada.<\/p><\/li><\/ul><h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"5060\" data-end=\"5115\">Smaller villages also attract foreign buyers<\/h3><p class=\"\" data-start=\"5117\" data-end=\"5511\">Villages such as <strong data-start=\"5130\" data-end=\"5149\">Vi\u00f1uela (41.6%)<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"5151\" data-end=\"5170\">Comares (39.4%)<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"5172\" data-end=\"5191\">Casares (36.8%)<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"5193\" data-end=\"5215\">Frigiliana (36.6%)<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"5219\" data-end=\"5248\">Canillas de Albaida (36%)<\/strong> show that not only the big cities are popular. Here it is often <strong data-start=\"5328\" data-end=\"5366\">active couples and retirees <\/strong>who consciously choose peace, space and a local atmosphere &#8211; with the possibility of still reaching the coast or an airport within half an hour. <\/p><h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"5513\" data-end=\"5551\">What about safety and neighborhood spirit?<\/h3><p class=\"\" data-start=\"5553\" data-end=\"5943\">For many international buyers, especially those looking to move permanently or invest in property on the Costa del Sol, <strong data-start=\"5671\" data-end=\"5715\">security and quality of life in the neighborhood<\/strong> is a decisive factor. It makes sense: a property is more than four walls &#8211; it&#8217;s about the people around it, the feeling that you can safely close the door behind you, and coming home to an environment that feels like the right match. <\/p><p class=\"\" data-start=\"5945\" data-end=\"6282\">Fortunately, the province of Malaga offers many <strong data-start=\"5988\" data-end=\"6028\">residential neighborhoods and urbanizations<\/strong> that offer just that: an <strong data-start=\"6053\" data-end=\"6140\">international character, quiet surroundings, social control and good infrastructure<\/strong>.
