Why the Costa del Sol lifestyle is best in the world

Why the Costa del Sol lifestyle is best in the world

The Costa del Sol is consistently recognised as having a superb laid-back lifestyle, due to the fantastic all year-round climate with an average of 320 days of sunshine, sandy beaches, family friendly ambiance and relatively low cost of living. The fact that it has some of the most impressive luxury real estate on the planet could also be a factor. Then there are the fiestas…Spaniards are welcoming and gregarious and use any excuse for a party, be it Christmas or Easter processions or celebrating a patron saint with a feria.

The Costa del Sol is so large, vibrant and varied, so let’s narrow the field to look at Estepona on the western flank. It is a bustling coastal town often referred to as part of the Golden Triangle alongside Benahavís and Marbella to the east. Similar to Marbella, there is an attractive and very busy marina, delightful cobbled streets and a promenade spanning the entire length of the beach. Promoted as the ‘Garden of the Costa del Sol’ due to walls of colourful flowers and murals created as part of the town’s ‘not more, but better’ initiative.

Party time

Like every Spanish village, town or city, Estepona celebrates every festival with gusto. There are three main events throughout the year; San Isidiro, Estepona feria and Virgen del Carmen celebrated by floating a statue of the Virgin Mary out to sea on a boat.

€12 million Christmas tree

Although not as glitzy as its neighbour Marbella, it has its fair share of glamour including the 5-star Kempinski Bahia Hotel, which gained world-wide attention in 2019 for displaying a Christmas tree adorned with jewelled decorations worth €12million.

Healthy lifestyle

Modern luxury mansions are a big draw but so is the healthy lifestyle. Outdoor activities are a big attraction, national parks, lakes, mountains and the Mediterranean provide lots of opportunities for hiking, paddle boarding, swimming, sailing, fishing and cycling. In fact, La Vuelta a Espana was routed through Malaga and Estepona in 2018.

Selwo Safari Park has almost 2000 exotic animals, such as tigers, lions, apes and elephants and if you’re an equestrian, Estepona has several riding schools including the famous Escuela de Arte Ecuestre Costa del Sol, one of the largest of its kind in Spain and well-known throughout the rest of Europe.

There are also the health benefits of the delicious Mediterranean diet. Low in carbs, high in fresh fish and colourful vegetables, it is proven to be the elixir for a longer and healthier life. Gastronomes will be blown away by the choice of restaurants along the Coast from bars to beach clubs and beachside chiringuitos. Just a short drive from Estepona, there are also several Michelin starred fining dining establishments, such as Lobito de Mar, Leña and Bibo headed by local born celebrity chef Dani Garcia, to name a few.

Blue flag beaches

Estepona has 17 flat sandy beaches (21kms) catering for everyone, from sunworshippers to families and even naturists. Dotted along the coastline you’ll find chiringuitos and beach clubs, including the iconic Tikitano Beach Restaurant and Trocadero Estepona, offering lazy long lunches by day and then a completely different vibe when the sun goes down at night.

Costa del Golf

The Costa del has such a concentration of tournament standard golf courses that it is even dubbed ‘Costa del Golf’ on road signs! Estepona is considered to have some of the best courses on the Coast, including El Paraiso Golf Club, Valle Roman Golf & Resort, Estepona Golf, La Resina Golf & Country Club and La Duquesa. Head in either direction and you will come across many more famous names including Valderrama a short drive towards Sotogrande.

Property Oasis 325 – just released and 50% already sold!

Of course, we can’t talk about Estepona without mentioning the newly released Oasis 325 (Phase 2) project of 88 south-facing contemporary 2 and 3-bedroom luxury apartments and penthouses. The architect has taken open plan living to the next level, ensuring a seamless flow between the interior and exterior space, all have a solarium or large terrace with sea views. In addition, there is a swimming styled as a beautiful natural lake, gym, spa and co-working area.

Oasis is ideally located between Marbella and Estepona town, close to the 5-star Kempinski Bahia Hotel, world-class golf courses, beach clubs, restaurants, shops and even a safari park.
