Fuengirola International Culture Fair
, where gastronomy, art and culture from more than 30 different countries come together in May 2024, and most villages have their own tapas routes or “Ruta de la Tapa” competitions.
In April 2024, two gastronomic events will take place fairly close to each other on the western side of the Costa del Sol; the “Ruta de la Tapa” in Estepona and the “Degusta Casares” Festival.
What is a Ruta de la Tapa?
This beloved annual route includes several restaurants and bars scattered throughout the city, where you can enjoy various tapas and try their wines at a discounted price. The goal is for people to try various menus at different eateries, expanding their palate while socializing and having a good time. They rate the food at each of the participating eateries, and a winning establishment is chosen based only on customer reviews.
How customers can participate in the tapas routes
A small map will be available showing the route, names and locations of participating restaurants and bars. To encourage people to try out as many dishes and establishments as possible, there are several customer award ceremonies. Each occasion has its own stamp or marker, and you must collect at least five on your card to prove you ate the tapas. Once you have the required number of stamps, you must complete the card, seal it and deposit it in one of the ballot boxes.
Ruta de la Tapa Estepona
Estepona’s Ruta de la Tapa 2024 will take place on 12th, 13th and 14th of April. Any bar or restaurant in
Estepona
is eligible to participate in the contest, but they must have registered with City Hall by Friday, March 15, 2024. To give participants a helping hand, each will receive a 100€ voucher that can be used toward the cost of their dishes. It is a fantastic event that gives local culinary experts a chance to shine and have their achievements recognized.
The winner of the Best Tapa 2024 contest will receive a cash prize of €1,000 and be presented with an award by City Hall. In 2023, 30 different venues participated in the competition. The Ruta de la Tapa is just one part of a larger event taking place throughout Estepona that includes various cultural and outdoor activities.

Gastronomic and Cultural Fair – Degusta Casares
If Estepona’s Tapas Route has whetted your appetite, you can try even more food and enjoy the culture at the Gastronomic and Cultural Fair “Degusta Casares” a few kilometers west and a few days later on April 20 and 21.
This will be the eighth event of its kind in Casares and it includes a Tapas Route, craft market, workshops, dancing, live music, game rooms and much more. The goal is to present gastronomy and local culture through live cooking events and recorded videos showing how to prepare some typical Andalusian dishes.
